Hello, I’m Sara Taveira, a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist with over 18 years of experience supporting individuals, couples, families, and young people through life’s challenges. I work with clients internationally and have extensive experience across both public and private mental health settings in Portugal, New Zealand, and the UK.

Choosing a therapist is an important and personal decision. If you’re looking for an experienced, compassionate psychologist who combines scientific expertise with a deeply human approach, I would be honoured to support you on your journey toward greater clarity, balance, and wellbeing.

My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and evidence-based. I draw from a range of therapeutic models, including Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and EMDR. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach, I tailor therapy to your individual needs, goals, and life experiences.

I believe that effective therapy begins with feeling heard, understood, and accepted. In our work together, I aim to create a compassionate and non-judgmental space where you can explore what’s been difficult, make sense of patterns, and develop practical tools to support lasting change. My role is to walk alongside you with curiosity and care, helping you reconnect with your strengths and build resilience.

I work with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, stress and burnout, trauma, emotional regulation, self-esteem, life transitions, and relationship difficulties. I also support clients navigating cultural transitions, identity questions, and major life changes.

I am fully registered with professional psychology bodies in Portugal, New Zealand, and the UK, and I engage in regular supervision and ongoing professional development to ensure my work remains ethical, reflective, and up to date.

I offer online therapy, which research shows to be just as effective as face-to-face sessions. Working online allows me to support clients wherever they are in the world, while still creating a safe, connected, and meaningful therapeutic relationship.
