ADHD Assessment - Child & Adolescent

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that typically becomes noticeable during the early school years. Around 5 - 10 percent of children live with ADHD, experiencing symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that can affect how they learn, behave, and connect with others.

We provide ADHD assessments for children to help families access the right diagnosis, treatment, and support.

Checkout Steps

An accurate diagnosis requires a thorough review of a child's history and experiences, supported by structured assessment tools.

During the checkout steps, you will be asked to provide your child's personal details, as well as the names and contact details of other people who know your child well, including parents, caregivers, and teachers. This is referred to as collateral information and is required to proceed with our services.

Psychometric Forms

Information is collected from:

  • One or more family members about the child/adolescent’s functioning at home.
  • One or more school teachers complete questionnaires about functioning in the school setting.
  • If school input is unavailable, a regular non-family contact (outside the home) can provide information.
  • The aim is to gather information from multiple sources before the assessment takes place.

Once your order has been processed, we will send out forms to those nominated during the checkout steps.

Why do we collect Collateral Information?

To ensure all diagnostic criteria are met, collateral information from multiple sources is required. This is particularly important for children, as symptoms must be present across more than one setting, such as at home and at school.

Current Symptoms
Collateral information about your child's current symptoms can be provided by:

  • Parents or caregivers
  • Teachers or school staff
  • Anyone who knows your child well in their day-to-day life

School Reports
School reports can be helpful in documenting your child's difficulties with attention, behaviour, or learning and are encouraged as part of the assessment process.

3. Initial Assessment Interview

Interview with Parents & Guardians Only

For all of our child and adolescent assessments, we begin with an initial interview with the parent(s) and any others who are responsible for the child’s affairs.

During the initial interview, information will be gathered about symptoms and difficulties, personal and medical history as well as information about other relevant factors (e.g., other mental health conditions).

To help facilitate efficient and timely completion of the assessment interview, we ask that you come to the meeting prepared to describe in detail your concerns about your child and please bring copies of any documentation of past assessment or treatment services and any reports from the school that are relevant.

Initial Assessment Report

After the initial assessment interview, the clinician will write a report outlining their recommendations for the next steps.

4. Diagnostic Assessment

Assessment with Child or Adolescent

If recommended in the initial assessment report, and once all of the psychometric forms and questionnaires are completed, we will reach out to schedule a diagnostic assessment appointment with the child/adolescent. Depending on what is required, additional assessment appointments with the child/adolescent may be required.

Diagnostic Report

After the assessment interviews have taken place, and all the additional information has been collected, a report will be generated that includes any appropriate diagnoses and treatment recommendations.

Prescriptions and Medication

Our team does not prescribe stimulant medication

Instead, we may apply for Special Authority and refer your child back to their GP, who will be responsible for initiating medication and providing ongoing prescriptions.
